2021 Buick Encore GX vs 2021 Buick Envision
For a five-seat crossover with plenty of cargo space, you can’t do much better than a Buick. Buick’s Encore GX and Envision are two luxurious, powerful, and spacious Buick SUVs that look just as good in your driveway as on the highway.
At first glance, the new Buick Envision and 2021 Encore GX might seem pretty similar. However, they each have their strengths, which will soon become apparent. Let’s walk through the similarities and differences in these two fine vehicles.
Trim Levels
The 2021 Buick Encore GX offers three different trims to choose from: the Preferred, Select, and Essence, all in the $20,000 MSRP range. In contrast, the 2021 Envision’s Preferred and Essence trims run in the $30,000 MSRP range, and if you want the top-of-the-line, newly designed Avenir trim, it’ll cost you more than $40,000. However, with the increased price comes a lot of increased luxury value as well.
Powertrain
The all-new Envision is considerably more powerful than the Encore GX. Its 2.0L Turbo ECOTEC engine provides up to 228 hp and 258 lb-ft. of torque for an exciting ride. In contrast, the 2021 Encore GX offers a choice of two engines, neither of which pull more than 155 hp or 175 lb-ft. of torque. If you’re excited about continuously variable transmission technology, however, only the Encore GX offers that drivetrain, though you can get a 9-speed automatic as well.
Interior luxury
Both crossover models offer seating for up to five passengers, but the similarities inside the cars end there. The Buick Encore GX has a perfectly serviceable, if spartan, interior, with the amenities you’d expect, like heated seats and Buick QuietTuning technology, available in-vehicle air ionizer, and others.
The Envision, on the other hand, comes those features and a number of others to make driving even more comfortable:
- Available massaging driver seat
- Available hands-free power liftgate
- Electronic precision shift
- and more!
Both models can carry about the same amount of cargo, around 25 cubic feet with the second row up and about 50 cubic feet with the seats down. Either ride is a fine choice for vacations, commuting, or running errands.
Bottom Line
As expected, the more expensive Buick Envision also offers a number of add-on amenities that the Encore GX lacks. If you’re looking for the ultimate in mid-size SUV sophistication, the Buick Envision is a great choice, and more affordable than many rivals in its segment.
However, if your budget affords something more affordable for your family, look no further than the Buick Encore GX. It’s a perfectly capable SUV with amenities that surpass its competition, so it’s a great choice for driving around South Jordan, Salt Lake City, and the surrounding areas.
